Video games have been around for a very long time now and I believe they have really gotten a bad name with many parents of children who are wanting to play certain video games. Many parents seem to believe that all video games are just bad for their children and the media is partially to blame for all the negative talk about video games and children. The parents really need to own up to more responsibility of their children, they are the ones going out and purchasing the video games for their young children many times. Either that or they are just so totally against the thought of their child playing a video game because of the negative things being said about it, that they never give their child the opportunity to play one.

What I have found is that video games themselves are not bad at all, they are entertaining and for small children, it helps to improve their hand eye coordination skills and the ability to focus better, including giving them the ability to learn better problem solving skills. It is our job as parents to make sure that the video games we purchase are age appropriate for our children because many video games are graphic, violent and just down right bloody, that is why you only purchase the ones that are appropriate for your age child. It is common sense really. There are many great learning video games available to young children, just browse around for the right one for your child, do not just NOT allow them to play them because you are afraid of what they might witness on these video games because of what you might have heard about them, they are not all appropriate for young children but there are many amazing ones for young, impressionable children.

Many of these games allow the parent and child to sit down together and play them together. This can allow you and your child to interact, they will really get a kick out of seeing you get all excited over their video game, they might even be able to teach you a few things on it. You will be so happy, seeing that big smile on their face and when they clear a level, they are just so proud of themselves. Sure, make sure their homework is done first, and put a limit on the amount of time that your child can play their video game. It would not be good to let them just sit there for hours and hours, doing nothing but playing their game, you as the parent, can control that. Christmas time is here and a cool video game is an awesome gift for a child of any age. Pick one that you approve of or that you all can play together as a family, it will be great fun for the entire family and your child will not be harmed in any way by allowing them to play video games.
